Amanda Krowski, President

Welcome to the UAOC!! I have been a member of the UAOC for 4 years with 3 years being on exec, this is my 4th. You can’t get rid of me. Why would I leave when the UAOC gives me the opportunity to meet so many cool outdoors ppl (which make up 90% of my friendship network now), lets me learn/partake in awesome trips, takes me to places I wouldn’t have gone on my own and ON A BUDGET which we all know students have!!

I have had a passion for the outdoors since I have been a little girl and still to this day pursue a lifestyle outdoors with primarily backpacking, ice and rock climbing, skiing, occasionally canoeing, scrambling, snowshoeing and biking. Hoping to get into cross-country skiing this winter.

Simply put, most of my happiest outdoor experiences have been in the mountains and ultimately I’ll take whatever chance I can get to be outside. Even the past 4 summer jobs have allowed me to live in a tent all summer doing research on birds and amphibians. If you’re curious, I have a degree in Environmental Science with a major in Conservation Biology and Management. This past summer I got paid to look for, catch and collect DNA for northern leopard frogs (a threatened species) all over S. AB. Beautiful area but I am ready to hit the mountains!!

So, this 2005/2006 year I hope to see lots of new faces out there and some familiar one’s too.

Sarah Seinen, Vice-President

Hi! This is my third year in the club and second year on the Executive. I spent most of my childhood outdoors - hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, killing mosquitos, snowboarding, and cross country skiing in the wilds of Houston, B.C. - and I suppose the desire to be on a mountaintop or on a lake or burdened with the weight of a 30lb pack has never left me.

During the fall semester, I will be finishing up the last five courses of my Bachelor of Arts in English and Human Geography, so hopefully I will have mounds of time this winter to go ice climbing and snow boarding and all things outdoors. See you on the incline!

Adam Bryson, Treasurer

Well, I've been in love with the outdoors since I was a wee school boy hacking through the jungle with a machete and climbing trees with an old miners belt, cheap no name hiking boots and a bit of frayed rope that probably wasn't safe. I've come a long way since then - I now have proper brand name hiking boots.

The outdoors club has a pretty amazing bunch of people. Among us, we've got the pooled connections, resources and knowledge to take some amazing trips. If there was any way to relieve stress from school it's hiking along the Rio Grande in Texas, climbing a 100 foot frozen waterfall in Nordegg or crawling through a cave in the Rockies. It just doesn't get any better.

My job with the Outdoors Club is to make sure that the ENRON scandal is not repeated at the U of A by staying away from deceptive accounting practices. An Electrical Engineering student looking after the club's finances?! Yes, I know it sounds strange. Now... if I could just find where the Club's vault is...

Sheena Nyenhuis, Administrator

Hi, my name is Sheena and this is my second year participating in the Outdoors Club, and first year as Administrator. Some people call it a glorified secretary, but an Administrator does much more than just wear short skirts, and low and very revealing tops!!!

I love spending time outdoors, camping and seeing the beautiful things that nature creates. I have not done a lot of backpacking and hiking, but I plan to do more in the future with the club. I have discovered the price tag that comes along with hiking. So far it is a toss up between tuition or text books and new gear!!! I hope to help plan the New Year's trip because I had such a good time and an awesome tan when I came back last year.

Hope to see you on the trails!

Justin Smalley, Information Officer

After being a club member for two years, I decided it was perhaps time to give a little bit back the only way I know how, by sitting in front of my computer. Officially I am in charge of the webpage, and unofficially I own the club. (yes, I can say anything I want here, being the only editor of this site). Currently I am enrolled in third year of Electrical Engineering, a very unforntunate trend of the exec this year. You can always find me on the New Years trips, which happen to be my sole motivation for getting through finals each December. See you in Jasper! (I'd better see each and every one of you. Your IP's have been logged.)

Rob Mallett, Equipment Officer

Hi, I'm Rob and I'm the club's equipment manager. I've been involved with the Outdoors Club for about two years now, and it has been a great way to get away from school with cool people. I'm really looking forward to this year's Christmas trip, and I hope to get on the West Coast trail too. See you around!

Konstantin Gavrikov, Social Coordinator

Hey there, I’m Konstantin and this is my second year as a member and first year on the exec at the UAOC. My love of the outdoors stretches far back to when I was a young pup growing up in the wilderness of Yellowknife. I enjoy camping, biking, hiking, snowboarding and I’m up for trying anything that involves being in the great outdoors. My goal this year as the Social is to make sure everyone knows about the delicious awesomeness that is the Outdoors Club. I am also here to organize any wild drinking events that take place when we’re not busy with one of our intensely outdoor-oriented activities. Social Coordinator is pretty much just a fancy name for DUDE, the difference being, I am officially endorsed by the club to party 24/7. I am hoping to get into ice climbing and canoeing this year, that is, when I’m not “coordinating” or doing that other thing (electrical engineering) that I hope to get paid for someday. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to working with the “veterans” of the UAOC and putting together some awesome trips. Hope to see you all riding at Jasper with us this year.

Max McLeod, Dude

This is my second year being involved with the the UAOC and my first on the exec. Right now I'm in my fourth year of Electrical Engineering, going for a specialization in something that would probably either bore or confuse most of you. In the rare occasions I can get outside, I like to go hiking, camping, canoeing, biking and pretty much trying anything else. My official position with the club is Dude, which just means I help out with everything and love bowling. Let's hope the trips this year are as much fun as they usually are. Have fun

Brett Pawlyk, Dude

Everything is more eXtreme in a kayak. If you don't beleive me then just try it. My favorites are wall-climbing, thesis writing, rollerblading, or sleeping, all while kayaking. Try and tell me that is not eXtreme.
