The A-team that brought you last years Thanksgiving trip has reunited for one last backcountry thanksgiving:  Phil (benches for all), Sietske (gourmet dinners), Sebastian (some random guy)

Once again Thanksgiving is around the corner, and as in previous years we will once again set out on what will probably be the last backcountry trip of the season. In past we’ve celebrated the holiday at Jacques Lake, Lake of the Falls, and this year we will be eating our turkey dinner at Farley Lake!

The Plan is to set out on Friday evening and camp along the shores of  Abraham Lake. On Saturday we will cross the North Saskatchewan north of the Abraham Lake and hike 16km to Farley Lake where we will setup our camp. On Sunday we plan to hike up Hummingbird Pass and then head back to camp to prepare and eat a backcountry turkey dinner. On Monday we will hike back to the cars and return home.

This trip is an intermediate hike since participants need to be physically fit to carry a heavy pack and cover the distance to the camp, however no technical knowledge is required. Because the weather in October tends to be rather rather chilly it is not unusual for the temperature to drop below freezing in the night. For those who can’t live without domestic comforts, we have another trip running the same weekend (Hikegiving).

Most equipment necessary for the trip can be borrowed from the club, however we do require participants to bring their own sturdy hiking boots. Anything less will not be accepted since a good pair of hiking boots are critical for preventing injuries.
